All Games Allowed
In response to working within Camelon and Tamfourhill over the past 2 years as a project artist, and his current involvement in conversations surrounding the Camleon Juniors Football Club Car Park redevelopment, artist Mark Bleakley has devised a project to engage with residents of all ages in conversations exploring:
The use of public space and the multiples of uses of different spaces.
The social history of games.
The communities desired use of public space.
Through a series of workshops, a range of residents explored games in relation to: historic and unknown games and current popular games. They then created their own games.
Inspired by the line markings that create courts, pitches and fields for sporting games; the workshops built up a collection of uniquely designed floor designs inspired by historic and current games markings with a ‘Camelon and Tamfourhill twist’.
The starting point for each workshop was the game “KUBB” or nicknamed Viking Chess; one of the oldest games still played.
The final installation was created on May 20th with local children and young people at the space beside the MUGA off Mariner’s Street. Many thanks to everyone involved, you were absolutely fantastic. And thanks too to John Hosie for his support throughout the project.
